Open Door Ministries

Challenges

Open Door Ministries is a Denver non-profit organization that provides “practical help and hope to people in urban Denver who are homeless or low income with the objective to move people toward self-sufficiency.” The ministry offers tangible needs like food, shelter, access to education, and employment training. They recently secured a property at 1449 N Downing Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood adjacent to one of their other locations. The challenge was to transform and upgrade this older Victorian home to better serve the local community.

Objectives

All nonprofit organizations require reliable funding to sustain their services, facilities, and operational needs. The property at 1449 N Downing was in poor condition and required substantial renovation to meet the standards necessary for the ministry's mission objectives. Successfully transforming this facility demanded a diversity of skills and expertise.

Solution

PMG saw the need and agreed to take on the work at no cost to Open Door Ministries. Work started immediately to tackle new paint and flooring throughout the first and second floors, new kitchen cabinets and upgrade, new shower/tub enclosure unit, new lighting, and a new customer door milled and installed. Other trade partners pitched in to help — DL Carpentry, Drywall Partitions Inc, Contemporary Painting, Colorado Floorworks, and Accent Installers. It was everyone’s contribution that got the doors open to help Open Door Ministry to continue to serve the Denver community.
