PMG Construction Partners with Access Gallery in a Facilities Update

Access Gallery is a Denver-based nonprofit empowering dedicated artists (many with developmental or intellectual disabilities) to build sustainable careers in the arts. Aspiring artists with disabilities often face unique barriers to professional opportunities, representation, and income. Access Gallery is working to close that gap through exhibitions, interactive experiences, and original art sales. The Gallery connects artists with the community. Its studio provides mentorship, real-world client work, and career development while Creative Services delivers high-quality design and commissioned artwork to businesses and agencies.

Expertise in the Service of Purpose

Like many nonprofits, Access Gallery relies on the strength of community partnerships to sustain its mission-driven work. Professional organizations can play a vital role, offering expertise, resources, and creativity to meet evolving needs. During the pandemic, Gensler Architects and PMG Construction partnered to remodel the Gallery, combining design and construction expertise to create a space better equipped to serve its artists. Since then, PMG has remained an active supporter and committed partner.

Sustainability For Good

In the fall of 2025, Access Gallery reached out to PMG for help refreshing its break room—creating a more functional space where staff could reheat meals, wash dishes, store supplies, and better maintain the area. Eager to support the Gallery while stewarding resources wisely, PMG identified an opportunity to repurpose materials and fixtures salvaged from another project.

It’s standard practice for PMG to look beyond demolition, intentionally identifying cabinetry, fixtures, and building materials that can be reused or donated to nonprofit partners like Access Gallery.

“Approximately 80% to 90% of materials in a typical demolition or remodeling project could be salvaged and reused, yet a significant portion still ends up in landfills. While roughly 70% to 76% of construction and demolition (C&D) waste is recovered or recycled, a massive amount of high-quality cabinetry, fixtures, and structural materials are discarded.” Construction Wasti Statistics, BigRentz

For PMG, salvaging and repurposing materials is more than efficiency; it’s a commitment to sustainability in action. Cabinetry from another project was redeployed to the Gallery, significantly improving the break room’s functionality. PMG also installed a new compact dishwasher and re-plumbed ,the sink and disposal, completing a thoughtful upgrade that supports the Gallery’s team and mission.

Making an Impact

It’s the little things in life that make the biggest impact. PMG made it happen and provided the quick turnaround at no cost to the Access Gallery – so they can focus their time and efforts on what’s most important to them, their artists, staff, and community.

PMG Construction Partners with Open Door Ministries in an Expansion Transformation

Serving the City. Strengthening Our Community.

Open Door Ministries is a source of tangible support and lasting hope for over 8,000 individuals in the Denver Metro area. From the next meal to stable housing, access to learning, and crucial job skills, Open Door connects people facing homelessness, poverty, and personal struggles with pathways to independence, strengthening our entire community.

The challenge for all of these organizations is securing resources, funding, and supporters to grow and continue providing these much-needed services. Despite these challenges, it was essential for Open Door to expand, serve more individuals, seek more resources, and find partners to help overcome the inevitable hurdles to progress.

Denver area families are relying on nonprofit services more than ever, as they experience their own economic challenges like layoffs, a continued shortage of affordable housing, and potential changes to Medicaid and food stamps, to name a few.  —Urban Land Conservatory

Adaptive Reuse - A Means to More Affordable Living

In 2025, Open Door Ministries purchased the property at 1449 N Downing Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, adjacent to their existing location, Antioch House. The Ministry saw this as a unique opportunity to grow and provide more affordable living for women in need of a hand up. To meet the Ministry’s standard, however, was no small challenge. Adaptive reuse of older homes requires creativity and expertise.

The old Victorian home they acquired was in poor condition and needed substantial renovation. Successfully transforming this facility would require hard work, resourcefulness, skill, and expertise. This work would require a very special partner.

PMG Working for Good

At PMG, we are dedicated to strengthening the Denver community by supporting organizations that share our core values. When we learned about Open Door Ministries’ latest project, we knew it would be an opportunity to share our expertise and experience in renovating the old Victorian Home. Helping provide more affordable transitional housing for women in need was a project we would be proud to be part of.

We agreed to undertake the work on a pro bono basis as our contribution to such an important cause and enlisted some of our trusted trade partners to pitch in, and help: DL Carpentry, Drywall Partitions Inc., Contemporary Painting, Colorado Floorworks, and Accent Installers helped make the project a success.

PMG Construction was an essential part of our renovation of Antioch House, our sober living and affordable house for women. I was constantly blown away by their willingness, flexibility, and excellence in construction. The house was completely transformed by the end, exceeding our expectations. —Dave Warren, Executive Director, Open Door Ministries

Old buildings, and old homes in particular, are especially challenging. Renovations always uncover conditions that require resourceful and creative solutions.

Converting an older home for Open Door’s ministry required comprehensive upgrades to meet modern standards and functional needs. The renovation included new paint, flooring, and lighting throughout. Additionally, the kitchen was fully renovated with new cabinets and appliances, the bathroom received a new shower/tub unit, and a custom door was installed, completing a total transformation of the first and second floors.

We exercised the same care and diligence in the Open Door Ministry’s work that we would for any for-profit client. Attention to detail and use of materials were key priorities in the renovation. It was important to provide renovation solutions that were functional, maintenance-sensitive, and aesthetically pleasing.

Results Matter. More Hope. More New Beginnings.

The results of this work allowed the ministry to expand its Level II Housing, transitional living program. The four additional rooms created out of the project were soon filled with new residents on a path to hope, restoration, and new beginnings.

Antioch House is now Antioch Square.

There is Always More to Do

Open Door Ministries is one of many organizations in Denver that serve the community in many ways to help individuals find stability in their lives, temporary living, practical help, education, job training, and much more. There is always more to do and more people to serve. And that takes more effort, more resources, and more partners to help. For PMG the Open Door Ministries Antioch Square project was a “mission-to-action” undertaking to which we lent our support in tangible ways through our experience and construction expertise.
